KP-LULUCF10.3.1.4 Article 3.4 – Cropland ManagementThe areas estimates for this activity are described in section 7.1.2.8.The methods used for estimating emissions and removals in lands under article 3.4 – croplandmanagement were, depending on land use on the previous <strong>report</strong>ing year, the same as thosedescribed for: cropland remaining cropland in section 7.3.1; land converted to cropland in section 7.3.2 (except land converted to forest land since 1990,which is <strong>report</strong>ed as 3.3 AR); cropland converted to wetlands in section 7.5.2. (only for cropland converted to wetlandsafter 2008); cropland converted to settlements in section 7.6.2 (only for cropland converted tosettlements after 2008); cropland converted to other land in section 7.7.2 (only for cropland converted to other landafter 2008); areas under no-till in section 7.3.1.5N2O emissions from disturbances associated with land-use conversion to cropland insection 7.11 (except for forest land converted to cropland after 1990, which is <strong>report</strong>edunder 3.3 D) carbon emissions from lime application in section 7.12 GHG emissions from biomass burning in section 7.1310.3.1.5 Article 3.4 – Grassland ManagementThe areas estimates for this activity are described in section 7.1.2.8.The methods used for estimating emissions and removals in lands under article 3.4 – grasslandmanagement were, depending on land use on the previous <strong>report</strong>ing year, the same as thosedescribed for: grassland remaining grassland in section 7.4.1; land converted to cropland in section 7.4.2 (except land converted to forest land, which is<strong>report</strong>ed as 3.3 AR); cropland converted to wetlands in section 7.5.2. (only for cropland converted to wetlandsafter 2008); cropland converted to settlements in section 7.6.2 (only for cropland converted tosettlements after 2008); cropland converted to other land in section 7.7.2 (only for cropland converted to other landafter 2008); areas under biodiverse pastures in section 7.4.1.5 GHG emissions from biomass burning in section 7.1310.3.2 Justification when omitting any carbon pool or GHG emissions/removals fromactivities under Article 3.3 and elected activities under Article 3.4As referred before the area of organic soils in Portugal is negligible and therefore the pool is notconsidered. Otherwise, all pools and gases were considered.10.3.3 Information on whether or not indirect and natural GHG emissions and removalshave been factored outPortugal did not factor out indirect effects of climate change in expected emissions andremovals from forest management. This was mostly due to technical difficulties associated withthat calculation. However, and in qualitative terms, science on the impacts of climate changeimpacts in Portugal suggests that the net-effect will most likely result in a reduction of forestproductivity.Portuguese National Inventory Report 2013MAMAOT10-4
