Knickerbocker Press. The book is in excellent condition and has a scarlet bound cover with embossed gold printing on the front and spine (now
aged to a dark ocher brown) and is 133 pages long with just some mild age toning along the edges of the pages. The book is an expansion of
his earlier "Hints on Revolver Shooting" with particular emphasis on
the effective operation and function of self-loading pistols. A previous
owner's name is handwritten in ink on the inside of the front
cover. This is an excellent book and would make a wonderful
addition to any library. (3575-16B) [Maier Collection]
2916. "THE MODERN PISTOL AND HOW TO SHOOT IT"
BY WALTER WINANS This is a hardcover 1919 first edition
by The Knickerbocker Press. The book is in excellent condition
and has a scarlet bound cover with embossed gold printing on the
front and spine and is 368 pages long with just some mild age toning
along the edges of the pages. This is Winans' follow up to his
famous book, "The Art of Revolver Shooting", with an emphasis on
automatic pistols. In his introduction he states that he wrote the
book to clear up issues brought on by people following the incomplete
advice given by other writers who had simply plagarized portions
of his previous works and also makes the following surprising
assertion: "Moreover, the revolver is obsolete, and there is no
use learning to shoot it." A previous owner's name is handwritten
in ink on the inside of the front cover and a removeable protective
acetate jacket is included. This is an excellent volume and would
be a great find for the student of shooting and firearms in general.
