Federal agencies marked Earth Day and <strong>Energy</strong> Awareness Month<br />

by promot<strong>in</strong>g energy efficiency and renewable energy through the<br />

distribution <strong>of</strong> posters and other awareness materials at local and<br />

regional events. Agencies celebrated Earth Day <strong>2003</strong> by convey<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the message that each <strong>in</strong>dividual, by tak<strong>in</strong>g actions to conserve<br />

energy, has the power to make a world <strong>of</strong> difference. For <strong>Energy</strong><br />

Awareness Month, federal personnel were encouraged that, by us<strong>in</strong>g<br />

energy wisely every day, we can make energy efficiency an <strong>in</strong>tegral<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the American values and culture.<br />

<strong>Energy</strong> Expo<br />

To help educate staff and share <strong>in</strong>formation about their own energy<br />

management activities and programs, agencies participated <strong>in</strong> a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> federal conferences and expositions, the largest be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>Energy</strong> <strong>2003</strong>: “Real World, Real Solutions” held dur<strong>in</strong>g August <strong>in</strong><br />

Orlando, Florida. The three-day workshop was sponsored by <strong>FEMP</strong><br />

and co-sponsored by the General Services Adm<strong>in</strong>istration and the<br />

<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Defense. The workshop was attended by more than<br />

1,500 public and private-sector participants, and featured specialized<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g tracks on Acquisition, <strong>Energy</strong> Security, New Technologies,<br />

<strong>Energy</strong> Markets, and Transportation. A trade show featured more<br />

than 100 vendors exhibit<strong>in</strong>g the latest products and services.<br />

<strong>FEMP</strong>’s next annual workshop will be held August 8-11, 2004 <strong>in</strong><br />

Rochester, New York.<br />

promote energy <strong>in</strong>dependence<br />

and security by encourag<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the <strong>in</strong>creased use <strong>of</strong><br />
