SHOWCASE FACILITIES<br />

In <strong>2003</strong>, 20 federal facilities represent<strong>in</strong>g 15 states and two foreign<br />

countries received Federal <strong>Energy</strong> Saver Showcase designations.<br />

<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Defense facilities – represented by the Navy, Army,<br />

Air Force, and Mar<strong>in</strong>es – received 12 <strong>of</strong> the 20 awards. Their<br />

outstand<strong>in</strong>g efforts demonstrate <strong>in</strong> particular that the country is<br />

mak<strong>in</strong>g great strides <strong>in</strong> implement<strong>in</strong>g renewable energy solutions.<br />

Other agencies receiv<strong>in</strong>g awards <strong>in</strong>clude the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Health and Human Services, the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Agriculture, the<br />

<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Interior, the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce, and<br />

the General Services Adm<strong>in</strong>istration.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 1995, <strong>FEMP</strong> has recognized more than 100 facilities across<br />

the country as Federal <strong>Energy</strong> Saver Showcases. Located throughout<br />

the nation, this year’s showcase facilities highlight photovoltaics,<br />

w<strong>in</strong>d power, fuel cells, ESPCs, recycled build<strong>in</strong>g materials, and<br />

many energy technologies and best management practices.<br />

Each Showcase facility, nom<strong>in</strong>ated by its respective agency,<br />

features energy efficiency, renewable energy, or water conserv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

technologies designed to save natural resources and reduce<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g costs for the American taxpayer.
