“What takes the greater power (omnipotence): to createbeings who have no ability to choose--who are mere pawnson God’s cosmic chessboard--or to create beings who havethe freedom to accept or reject God’s salvation? I submit, the latter. ... Would a God who ordained the existence ofimmortal beings without making any provision for themto escape eternal torment be a cruel being? What kind ofGod would call on mankind to ‘believe and be saved’ whenHe knows they cannot [and] what kind of relationship isthere between God and people who could never chooseHim--but are ‘irresistibly’ called...? A God who sovereignly offers salvation to allthrough His elect Saviour reflects both power andlove.” (Philip F. Cogdon, “Soteriological Implications ofFive-Point Calvinism,” Journal of the Grace EvangelicalSociety, Autumn 1995; cited from Dave Hunt, A Calvinist’sHonest Doubts Resolved, p. 76).42
