Ittells us plainly that the sinner’s heart is deceitful anddesperately wicked, and no one can properly understandmankind today unless they understand and believe thisteaching; but it does not tell us that the sinner cannot believethe gospel. It says nothing about the condition of the sinner’swill in regard to exercising faith.1 Corinthians 2:14--“But the natural man receiveth notthe things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishnessunto him: neither can he know them, because they arespiritually discerned.”is verse teaches that the unsaved man does not receivethe things of the Spirit of God and has no natural ability todiscern spiritual things. Yet it says nothing about thecondition of the unsaved man’s will or whether he can believethe gospel or not. To say that the sinner does not naturallyreceive the things of the Spirit of God is not to say that hecannot. Apart from divine enlightenment, conviction, anddrawing, no sinner would respond to the Gospel, but thisenlightenment, conviction, and drawing is extended to everysinner (Jn. 1:9; 16:8; 12:32). “at was the true Light, whichlighteth every man that cometh into the world” (Jn. 1:9).2 essalonians 2:13--“But we are bound to give thanksalway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord,because God hath from the beginning chosen you tosalvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief ofthe truth.”89
