1753 the agriculturist Antonius Cramer had the vision of brewing a beer of exceptional clarity and spicy

elegance – with success. It sold so well that his son, Johannes Vitus, established his own brewery in

Sauerland (North Rhine Westphalia) from which he conquered the world.

Nine generations of the Cramer family have accompanied the Warsteiner brand on its journey. Today

our family-owned company is one of the largest, best known, most modern and successful breweries in

Europe and the Warsteiner Group, with more than 120 subsidiaries and shareholdings, is an internationally

operating company.

The success story of the Warsteiner Brewery begins more than 250 years ago. To this very day the

exceptionally soft water builds the basis for an extraordinary beer brewed according to the pilsener

style whereby the quality unconditionally reigns supreme. The latest analysis methods, innovative

measurement procedures and the uncompromising adherence to the obligations of the German Purity

Law of 1516 sees to a constant premium quality in the barrel, bottle and can.

The fact that the Warsteiner Brewery has been the first brewery worldwide to be awarded the Food

Safety Management System certificate according to international standards (DIN EN ISO

22000:2005) makes us especially proud. With quality that one can taste, which made the Warsteiner

Exporting to over 60 countries from Warstein, by daily moving about 40,000 pallets and processing more than

130 trucks/lorries, requires maximum logistical efficiency. The excellence of our distribution network as well as our

own innovative logistics system - including a brewery owned railway siding - ensures optimal shipping conditions

Pilsener. According to the market research institute TNS Emnid, WARSTEINER Premium Verum

History.

1753 First payment of a beer tax by the agriculturist Antonius Cramer.

1803 Establishment of the head office of the brewery in the centre

of Warstein by Caspar Cramer.

1896 Albert Cramer senior graduates at the Brewery School in Worms.

1928 Discovery of the “Kaiserquelle” with soft brewing water and beginning

of specialisation in pilsener beers.

1960 With an annual production of 100 000 hectolitre WARSTEINER is one

of the largest German breweries.

1974 The building of the brewery in the “Waldpark” commences just outside Warstein.

1978 Grand opening of the brewery in the “Waldpark”.

1984 Producing over 2 Million hectolitre, Albert Cramer turns WARSTEINER

into the largest German brewery.

1994 Expansion of the brewing capacity and the development of European

and international export.

2001 Participation in the König Ludwig GmbH und Co. KG Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg.

2003 250-year anniversary. The company is in the eighth generation of family

ownership. The “einzig wahre Warsteiner” (The only true Warsteiner)

2005 Opening of the brewery’s own railway siding.

2005 The Frankenheim brewery from Düsseldorf becomes part of the Group.

2006 Catharina Cramer becomes the first woman on the executive board

of the Haus Cramer Management GmbH.

2006 Opening of the visitor centre “Unsere Warsteiner Welt” (Our Warsteiner World),

annually attracting more than 100 000 visitors.

2007 The Herforder Brewery becomes a subsidiary of the Group.

2008 Commissioning of unit IV (filling line) with a capacity of up to 55 000 bottles/hr.
