Any student throwing food in the cafeteria or participating in a “food fight” will besuspended from school and will be referred to the <strong>Rochelle</strong> Police Department for“vandalism”.Leaving <strong>School</strong> Grounds at NoonThe middle school maintains a closed campus. No pupil shall leave the school grounds at noonunless he/she is picked up by a parent. The parent should send a note with the student in the morning andthe student should present that note to the office to obtain a permission slip.<strong>School</strong> NurseHEALTH OFFICEAn Illinois Certified <strong>School</strong> Nurse, Registered Nurse, or health aide makes up the health officestaff. The health office staff is only available during the school day from 8:05 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.To use the health office, the student should check in with his / her current teacher. All studentswho are ill and wish to go home need to check out with the health office before leaving the school.Student Illness – If your student is ill with a fever, they may not return to school until fever freefor 24 hours without medications - If your student is diagnosed by a physician and put on antibiotics, thestudent must be on them for 24 hours before returning to school - If your student is having issues withvomiting or diarrhea, they should be home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.The school will observe recommendations of the Illinois Department of Public Health regardingcommunicable diseases. If your student contracts a communicable disease, (i.e., but not limited to…..pink eye, chicken pox, ring worm, strep throat etc.,) experiences injury, surgery, lengthy illness or youanticipate a hospitalization; please provide information to the health office at your school. Adoctor’s note is required for your student to return to school. The health office staff will beglad to assist you to arrange a smooth re-entrance back into school.Physical/Dental ExamsAccording to state law, all students entering kindergarten and 6 th grade or any studenttransferring into our school district must present evidence of a physical, including a completeimmunization record. Hearing and vision screening is NOT a substitute for an evaluation by a doctor.A dental examination is also required to be completed by no later than May 15 th , 2012. The state requiresthat a child's vision be checked in grades K, 2 and 8.Food allergiesPlease notify your child's health office if your child has a food allergy. Our health office staff will workdirectly with you and your child’s doctor to ensure a safe school environment. If you have concerns aboutyour child's safety while in the classroom, on school grounds, while at lunch or on field trips, pleasecontact the health office of your child's school. An alternative lunch may be provided for those studentswith severe food allergies. Contact the health office of your child's school for more information.
