Pen Turner’s Corner Continuedfrom Previous Page.dust laden sandpaper underneaththe spinning blank. NOTE: Turnoff any dust extraction systems. Idrizzle CA over the top of the spinningblank while touching the dustto the blank. The CA will mix withthe dust forming a slurry. The slurrymaneuvered over the surface of theblank making sure it gets into thecrack(s). Spray a little acceleratorto set the CA glue. I now use myskew or scraper to remove the CAand dust mix from the surface ofthe pen and start the sanding overagain with 220. Finish sanding andfinishing. Then assemble the pen. Iactually use this slurry on severalwoods with open grains. Picturesof this technique are included inmy CA finishing article if pictureswould help. Ticketsthem are reaching new plateaus.Because of the growing popularityof making pens on the wood lathethe penturning hands-on-area willallow new or wannabe penturners tomake a first pen or seasoned turnersto make a pen or to get invaluableinformation on kits and making penon the wood lathe. We will have penblanks ready to mount on the latheand turn. Two different kits will beavailable from various vendors andprepared blanks will be available inthe penturning hands-on-area alongwith any needed tooling. The areawill be open during regular demonstrationtimes and also during anyfree time during the symposium’sregular hours. Experienced penturnerswill be available to assistand answer questions. Therewere approximately 800 pieces inthe Instant Gallery.Special Interest Night (SIN)was held on Friday, June 26 from7:30 - 9:30pm This was an opportunityfor groups and individuals tohave panel discussions, meetings,and special presentations. The AAWprovided the rooms and digitalprojector. Past year sessions haveincluded groups of Segmenters,Pen Turners, Box Makers, Collectorsof wood Art, Educators, DisabledTurners, Ornamental Turners,WOW and more.Spouse and Significant OtherInformationThree packaged tours wereset up for the non-woodturning enthusiast/travelpartner. These tourswere:Santa Fe TourAlbuquerque City TourTram TourSpouse Craft Room was setup to allow non-woodturners topractice their own crafts with otherswhile your spouses were enjoyingtheirs.Symposium ScheduleThursday June 25, 3:00 to 7:00p.m. - Registration/Check-in(registration also on Friday,Saturday and Sunday, beginningat 7:45 am).Saturday June 27, 5:30 pm to 6:00PM - Social Hour, followed bythe Food Affair/Auction Gala at7:30 PMFriday-Sunday: Rotational Demonstrations,Friday and Saturday,9 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 9a.m. - 3:15 p.m.Mildred and I arrived in Albuquerqueabout 1:30 pm and checkedinto our hotel before heading overto the Convention Center. Registrationwas to start at 3:00 pm and itwas an effortless task.
