Superintendent’s Recommendation:That the School Board of Seminole County approve the 2011-2012 Seminole Career PathwaysConsortium Agreement between the School Board of Seminole County and Seminole State College ofFlorida.2. Background/Analysis:The Carl D. Perkins grant, which supports Career and Technical Education initiatives in the district,entered the fourth year of a five-year funding cycle on July 1, 2011.At the beginning of the current five-year funding cycle (2008-2009) the state provided separate fundsto support the development of Career Pathways Consortia with the mission to develop local andregional programs of study and provide articulation pathways in order to seamlessly transitionstudents to post-secondary education/training. In July 2009 this separate funding was eliminated;however, recipients of the Carl D. Perkins Grant have a continued mandate to implement the state’sprogram of study requirements through the annual base allocation traditionally provided. As a result,the Seminole Career Pathways Consortium has been included in both the district and Seminole StateCollege’s applications each year of the funding cycle. Both institutions contribute funds to meet theprograms of study requirements.On June 14, 2011 the School Board approved an agreement with Seminole State College of Florida tocontinue the Seminole Career Pathways Consortium. The original agreement was entered into inorder to combine resources and collaborate in the implementation of the Seminole Career PathwaysProgram for school year 2011-2012.Upon submittal of the agreement, the Florida Department of Education requested a rewrite to somesections of the agreement. The rewrite provided more detailed accountability requirements but doesnot change the original financial responsibilities of the parties.
