THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTYACTION ITEM: APPROVAL OF THE 2011 EDUCATIONAL EQUITY ACT PLAN IV.C.Item Number1. Superintendent’s Recommendation:That <strong>the</strong> School Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> approve <strong>the</strong> 2011 Annual Update <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> EducationalEquity Act Plan.2. Background/Analysis:Florida Statutes, Section 1000.05 is commonly cited as <strong>the</strong> Florida Educational Equity Act. In order toaddress compliance with <strong>the</strong> Act, all <strong>school</strong> districts are required to submit to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong>Education, Office <strong>of</strong> Equal Educational Opportunity an annual update which addresses various equityissues within <strong>the</strong> <strong>school</strong> district as identified by <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education. Items identified by <strong>the</strong>Office <strong>of</strong> Equal Educational Opportunity which are addressed in <strong>the</strong> 2011 plan update include:Modification to Procedural Requirements, Student Participation, Gender Equity in Athletics, andEmployment Equity.As provided in <strong>the</strong> back-up material which is on file with <strong>the</strong> Clerk to <strong>the</strong> School Board, <strong>the</strong> plan updatecontains <strong>the</strong> submission <strong>of</strong> current Board policies related to nondiscrimination, and enrollment datathat is related to Grade 8 – Algebra I, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Honors, and Level 3courses. With regard to Gender Equity in Athletics, <strong>the</strong> plan contains monitoring forms andparticipation data related to Component #1 - <strong>the</strong> accommodation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> interests and abilities <strong>of</strong> malesand females. Additionally, <strong>the</strong> plan contains employment equity data which is pertinent to <strong>school</strong> /district level administrators, and instructional staff.Subsequent to approval by <strong>the</strong> School Board, <strong>the</strong> plan will be submitted to <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> EqualEducational Opportunity within <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education for <strong>the</strong>ir review.3.
