THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTYACTION ITEM: APPROVAL OF THE 2011 EDUCATIONAL EQUITY ACT PLAN IV.C.Item Number1. Superintendent’s Recommendation:That the School Board of Seminole County approve the 2011 Annual Update of the EducationalEquity Act Plan.2. Background/Analysis:Florida Statutes, Section 1000.05 is commonly cited as the Florida Educational Equity Act. In order toaddress compliance with the Act, all school districts are required to submit to the Department ofEducation, Office of Equal Educational Opportunity an annual update which addresses various equityissues within the school district as identified by the Department of Education. Items identified by theOffice of Equal Educational Opportunity which are addressed in the 2011 plan update include:Modification to Procedural Requirements, Student Participation, Gender Equity in Athletics, andEmployment Equity.As provided in the back-up material which is on file with the Clerk to the School Board, the plan updatecontains the submission of current Board policies related to nondiscrimination, and enrollment datathat is related to Grade 8 – Algebra I, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Honors, and Level 3courses. With regard to Gender Equity in Athletics, the plan contains monitoring forms andparticipation data related to Component #1 - the accommodation of the interests and abilities of malesand females. Additionally, the plan contains employment equity data which is pertinent to school /district level administrators, and instructional staff.Subsequent to approval by the School Board, the plan will be submitted to the Office of EqualEducational Opportunity within the Department of Education for their review.3.
