BOARD DISCIPLINE HEARINGSTHE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTYOctober 12, 2011The Seminole County Public Schools Discipline Hearing Officer(s) convened on WednesdayOctober 12, 2011 for the purpose of reviewing Administrative Assignment(s) and Expulsionrecommendations to be confirmed by Board action.Dr. Tina Calderone, Seminole County Public Schools Board Member, was present to hear theSuperintendent’s recommendations as Hearing Officer, for the full Board. Mr. Gene Grace was inattendance to present the Superintendent’s recommendations. Ms. Cheryl Long was present, asclerk, to record recommendations.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTSStudent(s), numbered 1 – 3 and F-3 that did not request an Alternative Assignment Review wereprovided to the attending Hearing Officer by Mr. Grace.Superintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented the Superintendent’s recommendationthat the Administrative Alternative Assignment(s), as presented, be accepted as a final decisionand not subject to further board action.Recommendation to the Board: Concur that the Alternative Assignment Agenda, as presented, beapproved and is not subject to further board action.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT REVIEW AND EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION(S)Dr. Calderone asked the parents/guardians in attendance for students on the discipline hearingagenda if they preferred an open or closed hearing. Parents/Guardians of student(s) 1 and 2requested a closed hearing.EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION OF STUDENT NO. 1 ~ LAWTON CHILES MIDDLESCHOOLSuperintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented the charge(s) submitted by LawtonChiles Middle School and relayed the Superintendent’s recommendation that student numbered 1be expelled and fully excluded from Seminole County Public Schools through June 2012.Recommendation to the Board: Concur that student numbered 1 be expelled from SeminoleCounty Public Schools through June 2012 with the benefit of educational services. Studentnumbered 1 is to enroll in Seminole County Virtual School with a minimum of 4 full credits. Uponsuccessful completion of Seminole County virtual school, student numbered 1 may transitionback to zone school.EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION OF STUDENT NO. 2 ~ LAKE MARY HIGH SCHOOLSuperintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented the charge(s) submitted by Lake MaryHigh School and relayed the Superintendent’s recommendation that student numbered 2 beexpelled and fully excluded from Seminole County Public Schools through January 2012.1Page 4
