BOARD DISCIPLINE HEARINGSTHE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTYOctober 12, 2011The <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> Discipline Hearing Officer(s) convened on WednesdayOctober 12, 2011 for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> reviewing Administrative Assignment(s) and Expulsionrecommendations to be confirmed by Board action.Dr. Tina Calderone, <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> Board Member, was present to hear <strong>the</strong>Superintendent’s recommendations as Hearing Officer, for <strong>the</strong> full Board. Mr. Gene Grace was inattendance to present <strong>the</strong> Superintendent’s recommendations. Ms. Cheryl Long was present, asclerk, to record recommendations.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTSStudent(s), numbered 1 – 3 and F-3 that did not request an Alternative Assignment Review wereprovided to <strong>the</strong> attending Hearing Officer by Mr. Grace.Superintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented <strong>the</strong> Superintendent’s recommendationthat <strong>the</strong> Administrative Alternative Assignment(s), as presented, be accepted as a final decisionand not subject to fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>board</strong> action.Recommendation to <strong>the</strong> Board: Concur that <strong>the</strong> Alternative Assignment Agenda, as presented, beapproved and is not subject to fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>board</strong> action.ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT REVIEW AND EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION(S)Dr. Calderone asked <strong>the</strong> parents/guardians in attendance for students on <strong>the</strong> discipline hearingagenda if <strong>the</strong>y preferred an open or closed hearing. Parents/Guardians <strong>of</strong> student(s) 1 and 2requested a closed hearing.EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION OF STUDENT NO. 1 ~ LAWTON CHILES MIDDLESCHOOLSuperintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented <strong>the</strong> charge(s) submitted by LawtonChiles Middle School and relayed <strong>the</strong> Superintendent’s recommendation that student numbered 1be expelled and fully excluded from <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> through June 2012.Recommendation to <strong>the</strong> Board: Concur that student numbered 1 be expelled from <strong>Seminole</strong><strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> through June 2012 with <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> educational services. Studentnumbered 1 is to enroll in <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> Virtual School with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 4 full credits. Uponsuccessful completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> virtual <strong>school</strong>, student numbered 1 may transitionback to zone <strong>school</strong>.EXPULSION RECOMMENDATION OF STUDENT NO. 2 ~ LAKE MARY HIGH SCHOOLSuperintendent’s Recommendation: Mr. Grace presented <strong>the</strong> charge(s) submitted by Lake MaryHigh School and relayed <strong>the</strong> Superintendent’s recommendation that student numbered 2 beexpelled and fully excluded from <strong>Seminole</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public <strong>Schools</strong> through January 2012.1Page 4
