metemMetem Gauging probesMetem gauging probes are electronic length indicators being used forthe inspection of diameters, thickness, conicity etc.Metem digital probes are used in the same way as common inductiveprobes. While inductive probes require electronic adaption and amplificationcircuits, digital probes are completely integrated with their ownelectronics, in order to supply a digital output signal compatible with acomputer interface or directly to the display unit Metem 2000.Gauging probesThe operating principle of a gauge probe is based on the counting ofpulses when a number of scale markings pass a detector. In a Metemgauge probe these markings are deposited on a glass scale with lowtemperature coefficient (quartz glass) and the markings are countedwith the aid of photo detectors. As the glass substrate is extremely stable,the density distribution of the gradings will not change. The result isa good inherent long time stability.System ConfigurationThe Metem gauge probes include probe head and probe electronics,which may be connected directly to a display unit or to a PC.Gauge Probe HeadThe gauging probe head is designed to achieve a minimal weight and isof course compatible with common probes. The outwards motion of thespindle is accomplished by spring push, pneumatic push or by motor.Probe electronicsThe probe head electronics are contained in a “smart” connector, whichis connected to the probe head via a 2 m cable. Besides managing thecontrol of the measuring probe itself, the electronics contains buffers forconnecting every measuring point to the data bus. This compact, “smart”connector is connected directly to the digital display unit Metem 2000, orto a network with the help of a “T-Con” network unit.Highest Accuracy of MeasurementA Metem gauging probe may be used in any position, all over the measuringrange. Resetting to different alternative adjustment standards can beperformed by simply pushing a button.
