Database Developer<br />
CERTIFICATE OF SPECIALIZATION<br />
Florissant Valley, Forest Park and Meramec<br />
This certificate is designed for <strong>in</strong>dividuals who are <strong>in</strong>terested<br />
<strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g skills to create and manage databases. It will<br />
provide the student with the tools, knowledge, and practical<br />
experience needed to design, develop, <strong>program</strong>, implement and<br />
adm<strong>in</strong>ister a database. Graduates will be qualified for the high<br />
demand positions of Advanced User, Developer, Analyst,<br />
Adm<strong>in</strong>istrator, or Programmer <strong>in</strong> a database environment. The<br />
Certificate of Specialization is designed to parallel the courses <strong>in</strong><br />
the Oracle Developer Certificate of Proficiency (see page 86).<br />
This certificate can be an <strong>in</strong>termediate affirmation of success for<br />
a student or provide a quantitative benchmark for those who do<br />
not need the additional course material provided <strong>in</strong> the Oracle<br />
Developer Certificate of Proficiency. Advanced users,<br />
management and <strong>program</strong>mers could select this shorter while<br />
still <strong>in</strong>tense certificate <strong>in</strong> database techniques.<br />

ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE<br />

This two-year American Sign Language <strong>in</strong>terpreter education<br />
<strong>program</strong> provides the <strong>in</strong>struction and experience needed to<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpret between <strong>in</strong>dividuals us<strong>in</strong>g American Sign Language and<br />
English. Focus is on a multi-discipl<strong>in</strong>ary and <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary<br />
approach to <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g centered around the theory of<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpretation. This professional, career <strong>program</strong> consists of a<br />
comprehensive, sequential, and <strong>in</strong>tegrated series of courses<br />
<strong>in</strong>tended to provide students with the necessary mastery of the<br />
theory, techniques and skills required to enter the profession of<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpretation.<br />
<strong>St</strong>udents <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g profession can expect<br />
to expand their worldview, commit to lifelong learn<strong>in</strong>g, meet<br />
new people and experience diverse situations with<strong>in</strong> large and<br />
small group sett<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
The foundation of the curriculum is American Sign Language<br />
(ASL) which is the native, <strong>in</strong>digenous language of the North<br />
American deaf community. We recognize the deaf community as<br />
a l<strong>in</strong>guistic and cultural m<strong>in</strong>ority that functions dist<strong>in</strong>ctly from the<br />
American ma<strong>in</strong>stream culture.<br />
Admission <strong>in</strong>to the <strong>program</strong> is cont<strong>in</strong>gent upon meet<strong>in</strong>g<br />
established criteria as def<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the DCS-IEP Advis<strong>in</strong>g Checklist.<br />
Graduates of the <strong>program</strong> will be prepared for entry-level,<br />
paraprofessional <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g positions.<br />
