CERTIFICATE OF SPECIALIZATION<br />
Meramec<br />
<strong>St</strong>udents learn both the science and the art of horticulture<br />
through a comb<strong>in</strong>ation of classroom theory with laboratory<br />
practice and on-the-job tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. Courses <strong>in</strong> soils, plant diseases,<br />
turf grass management and cooperative horticulture are <strong>in</strong>tegral<br />
p<strong>arts</strong> of the <strong>program</strong>. <strong>St</strong>udents receive their tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the<br />
<strong>College</strong>’s greenhouses, outdoor nursery facilities, laboratories and<br />
lath house. <strong>St</strong>udents should enjoy work<strong>in</strong>g with plants and<br />
observ<strong>in</strong>g the growth process.<br />
Entry-level jobs are available with state and city park<br />
departments, nurseries, landscape contract<strong>in</strong>g firms, golf courses<br />
and retail sales.<br />

Meramec<br />
This <strong>program</strong> is offered at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s<br />
Kemper Center for Home Garden<strong>in</strong>g and provides tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g that<br />
enables students to enhance their garden<strong>in</strong>g skills. The <strong>program</strong><br />
provides hands-on <strong>in</strong>struction <strong>in</strong> basic horticulture pr<strong>in</strong>ciples to<br />
those who plan to manage landscapes. Courses address plant<br />
selection and care, weed and pest control, preparation, and use<br />
of garden soil, and lawn care.<br />
