DEGREE CONCENTRATIONS<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Louis</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a good place to beg<strong>in</strong> a college <strong>program</strong> <strong>in</strong> a traditional academic area. It offers the basic curriculum<br />

core that is the foundation for major<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> any subject the student may ultimately choose. Complet<strong>in</strong>g the General Transfer <strong>St</strong>udies<br />

concentration will prepare a student with the essential first two years of a Baccalaureate <strong>degree</strong> while reta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g flexibility that will<br />

accommodate select<strong>in</strong>g a major field later or chang<strong>in</strong>g to a different one from what the student is <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> now.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who have def<strong>in</strong>ite ideas about their academic <strong>in</strong>terests may f<strong>in</strong>d a specific <strong>associate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>arts</strong> concentration that will fit them.<br />

Undecided students or students who wish to keep their academic <strong>program</strong>s more adaptable should choose the General Transfer<br />

<strong>St</strong>udies concentration. The college offers the follow<strong>in</strong>g concentrations: Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration, Communications Arts, Life Sciences,<br />

Mathematics, General Transfer (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g International <strong>St</strong>udies option) and Music.<br />

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE<br />

Florissant Valley, Forest Park, Meramec and Wildwood<br />

This <strong>program</strong> offers students the first four semesters of a<br />

bachelor’s <strong>degree</strong> <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess adm<strong>in</strong>istration. <strong>St</strong>udents take<br />

courses <strong>in</strong> communications, humanities, science, mathematics and<br />

social science as well as basic bus<strong>in</strong>ess courses <strong>in</strong> account<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

economics, management and data process<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Potential students should be <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> manag<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

transactions and work<strong>in</strong>g with other people. They should have a<br />

good math background and the flexibility to work <strong>in</strong> a variety of<br />

situations.<br />

Graduates may transfer to any four-year college or university<br />

which offers a <strong>degree</strong> <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess adm<strong>in</strong>istration. <strong>St</strong>udents are<br />

strongly advised to work closely with a counselor or advisor to<br />

ensure transferability of courses to a particular <strong>in</strong>stitution.<br />

Graduates work <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ance, production, market<strong>in</strong>g, personnel,<br />

account<strong>in</strong>g, management and statistics as management tra<strong>in</strong>ees,<br />

sales representatives and adm<strong>in</strong>istrative assistants <strong>in</strong> all areas of<br />

commerce and <strong>in</strong>dustry for companies and organizations of all<br />

sizes.<br />
