SUBJECT: <strong>Jenner</strong> <strong>Radar</strong> <strong>Site</strong> B-<strong>76</strong><br />

SUMMARY: Mr. Joe Piaser (Retired member of the 74th Artillery<br />

Battalion, Battery "C" at Santa Rosa, California) said that Capt.<br />

Mottrom (HQ Battery) told him, <strong>Jenner</strong> <strong>Radar</strong> <strong>Site</strong> B-<strong>76</strong> was defended<br />

by the 144th Infantry Battalion utilizing small arm weapons. The<br />

74th Field Artillery had one section of Battery "B" stationed at<br />

<strong>Jenner</strong>, for defense of the coastline by submarines. He also told<br />

Mr. Piaser that the 74th Artillery helped defend the radar site<br />

utilizing .50 Caliber machine guns, .30 Caliber machine guns, .30<br />

Caliber Infields (later changed to Carbines) and sidearms. Mr.<br />

Piaser, stated he was issued a side arm (.45 Caliber). Even<br />

through the '74th Field Artillery Battalion had 75mm, they were not<br />

used for defense of <strong>Jenner</strong> <strong>Radar</strong> <strong>Site</strong> B-<strong>76</strong>. The majority of the<br />

heavy Caliber guns were sent overseas with Batteries "A" & "C",<br />

Battery "B" guns were used for the purpose of defending the<br />

Westren Coastline from San Francisco to Eureka, California. But<br />

they definitely they were not used for or around the <strong>Radar</strong> <strong>Site</strong>.<br />

This information was obtain from Major Mottrom, Hqs Battery of the<br />

74th Field Artillery at Santa Rosa, CA.<br />
