d. Area C: All Remaining Land
(1) This area has been subjected to a great deal of
excavation, in t.he form of building new homes, vegetation removal
and road construction. There have been no reports of OE
contamination as a result of these excavations.
(2) There have been no reports of OE or OE debris being
found in Area C since site closure. Additionally, there were no
records found during the records search that would indicate past
or present OE contamination with in Area C.
(3) There was no evidence of OE contamination, burial
sites or disposal pits found during the SI Team's site
(4) Due to the lack of physical evidence and the lack of
a reported OE presence, Area C is considered to be
uncontaminated.
e. Area D: Defense Firing Area
(1) There is no confirmation that the artillery weapon
was ever fired at this site. It is hearsay and conjecture that a
75mm gun was at Jenner Radar Site B-76.
(2) Even if a gun was present, it is unlikely that it
was used. The relatively short time span that the Western
Coastal Defense sites were active as well as heavy shipping
traffic and intense commercial fishing would have precluded the
gun crews from firing ordnance. During the records search no
evidence of firing, such as notices to airmedmariners or danger
areas on navigational charts, were discovered by the assessment
team. There have been no reports of any ammunition related
residue associated with this site. No newspaper accounts of
.u/ firing of any sort were located.
