1 (2) Mr. Richard Heib is the current owner of the former
Jenner Radar Site Army Cantonment area (see document 1-1). He
has owned the property since 1959. His residence is the former
mess hall. He told the SI Team that of the sixteen original
buildings only twelve were left standing when he obtained the
property. He tore down the machine shop, rented out the other
ten buildings, and converted the mess hall into his living
quarters. Also, one shed was left intact for storage. He has
performed a lot of bulldozer work throughout the old cantonment
area, closing old roads, making new roads and ridding the area of
undergrowth and planting trees. During that time, he has not
seen or found any type of ordnance or debris. Mr. Heib
accompanied the SI Team around his property and showed the team
the improvements he has made as well as the three possible gun
emplacements.
(3) Mr. Rex Grady, is an amateur historian in the area
(see document 1-2). Mr. Grady told the SI Team that he was not
aware of a radar site in the area. He stated that he had heard
stories from an old fisherman that in the early 1940's there was
a fire-fight between a submarine and shore batteries near Goat
Rock. This story could not be substantiated by interviews with
4' other local residents, newspapers in the area, or reviews of
literature concerning Japanese submarine attacks on the American
mainland.
(4) Ms. Sylvia Walker is the current land owner of the
Radar Annex (see document 1-31. She said that she owns five
acres and the only thing that was found on her land was a WW-I1
guard shack and a large wooden box with rope handles, marked
ordnance. The SI Team asked for permission to make a visual
inspection of her land, for any type of debris left from WW-11.
(5) Ms. Susan Alverez, an archeologist and Cultural
Resources Officer at Fort Hunter-Liggett, had prepared a cultural
resource report of Jenner Radar Site B-76 (see document 1-4).
She was aware c~f the three depressions in the ground believed to
be gun emplacements. Other than the location of the depressions,
she had no information concerning ordnance presence on the site.
(6) Mr. Matthews, a state park ranger was interviewed
(see document 1:-5) . He had no information about ordnance or
debris being reported on the former site.
