4WDNO BARRIER TO AIRBAGSCargo barrier manufacturer Milford has been working on developing products which are compatible with4WDs fitted with side curtain type airbags.Milford’s Sales and Marketing Manager,Greg Spooner, commented on thesignificance of the development.“Many passenger and 4WD/SUVvehicles now feature side curtain airbagswhich are mounted in the channel abovethe upper floor line between the vehiclesA and C or A and D pillars,” he said.“These safety devises are designed tofill an area of approximately 150mm fromthe internal trim between the roof line andthe occupant’s shoulder height in lessthan three milliseconds and at speeds ofup to 320kph.“It is vitally important that a cargobarrier does not provide any obstruction tosuccessful air curtain deployment, in allof its mounted positions.”Mr Spooner said with that in mind,Australian standards precluded the use ofcargo barriers in many applications.“As the industry leader, Milford has74 AU T O M O T I V E A F T E R M A R K E T M AG A Z I N E AU G U ST 2 0 0 8 www.aaaa.com.au
