RULE 3 / PLAYERS, SUBSTITUTES AND PLAYER EQUIPMENTBR-65A.R. 45. Nine minutes before the scheduled starting time for the game, Team A presentsits squad roster <strong>and</strong> its starting lineup to the official scorer <strong>and</strong> then, at six minutes beforethe game’s starting time, Team A presents four additional names to the official scorer forthe squad list. RULING: Team A shall be assessed one indirect technical foul <strong>and</strong> thegame shall start with a jump ball.Art. 2. After the time limit specified in Rule 3-3.1 <strong>and</strong> before the start ofthe game, a team shall be charged with a maximum of one indirect technicalfoul for one or more of the following:a. Failure to comply with Rule 3-3.1.b. Adding name(s) to the squad list.c. Changing squad member’s number(s) without reporting the change(s)to the scorers <strong>and</strong> an official.A.R. 46. Team A properly submits its squad list <strong>and</strong> designates its five starters incompliance with the rule before the starting time of the game. However, the uniformnumber for each squad member is erroneously indicated. The mistake is not detecteduntil approximately 1-1/2 minutes have been played. RULING: An indirect technicalfoul shall be charged to Team A. A player shall wear the uniform number indicated in thescorebook or the scorebook number shall be changed to that which he or she is wearing.When the squad member, before participating, changes the uniform number he or shewears to that indicated in the scorebook, there shall be no penalty. When the number inthe scorebook for a player is changed before participation <strong>and</strong> the change is reported toboth the official scorer <strong>and</strong> an official, there shall be no penalty.d. Changes in the starting lineup, except when the changes arenecessitated by obvious injury or illness, or to replace a designatedstarter to shoot a technical-foul free throw.A.R. 47. A1, who is designated as a starter 10 minutes before the scheduled starting timeof the game, becomes ill one minute before the game is to start. RULING: A1 may bereplaced without an indirect technical foul being assessed. Illness or injury is consideredto be an extenuating <strong>and</strong> unavoidable circumstance that permits a substitution withoutpenalty. A1 shall be permitted to enter the game later if able.Art. 3. Once the game begins, a team can be charged with a maximum ofone indirect technical foul for the infractions listed in Articles 1 <strong>and</strong> 2 ofthis section.Section 4. SubstitutionsArt. 1. Each substitute who desires to enter the game shall give the scorershis or her uniform number.
