As aconsequence there is an increase in dem<strong>and</strong> for these technologies. Today there are several blogs, lists <strong>and</strong>discussion forums in Portuguese dealing with various issues related to them <strong>and</strong> also providing free support tothose technologies. However, there was a lack in this free <strong>and</strong> open geo-technologies new market: a specializedmagazine.In order to fullfill this claim, we are proud to announce the "FOSSGIS Brazil" magazine. Some <strong>of</strong> the mostrelevant names in geomatics <strong>and</strong> opensource area teamed up <strong>and</strong> worked to produce a high quality material,with solid foundations on the opensource <strong>and</strong> free s<strong>of</strong>tware community principles.In this first edition, we start talking about related initiatives like OL4JSF, a 100% Brazilian project, which isalready a worldwide success. Tony Vyn, a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> agronomy, found that no-till reduces nitrous oxideemissions by 57 percent over chisel tilling, which mixes crop residue into surface soil, <strong>and</strong> 40 percentover moldboard tilling, which completely inverts soil as well as the majority <strong>of</strong> surface residue.
