Also, the technical advances being made in cellulosicconversion <strong>of</strong> plant biomass into bi<strong>of</strong>uel could <strong>of</strong>fer integrated approach for optimum utilization <strong>of</strong> vetiverplantations thereby reducing the load from anthropogenic emissions.VS could mitigate the collateral adverse effects <strong>of</strong> climate change, such as flood disaster, soil degradation, loss<strong>of</strong> water quality <strong>and</strong> quantity (including groundwater), agriculture, <strong>and</strong> pollution control (water <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong>decontamination), <strong>and</strong> sediment control from roads, mines <strong>and</strong> other sources that impact basin sediment flows.Objectives• Review <strong>of</strong> the state <strong>of</strong> art developments on the prospects <strong>and</strong> potential <strong>of</strong> VS in addressing issues relatedto climate change <strong>and</strong> mitigation <strong>of</strong> global warming• An update <strong>of</strong> latest developments on VS applications to underscore its promises <strong>and</strong> potential in theservice <strong>of</strong> global community• Overview <strong>of</strong> Vetiver Ecosystem Services (an integrated ecological approach for betterment <strong>of</strong>environment, people <strong>and</strong> community)• Utilization <strong>of</strong> vetiver diversityAwards“King <strong>of</strong> Thail<strong>and</strong> Vetiver Awards”There will be two sets <strong>of</strong> these awards valued at US $ 10,000 to the best papers on research (US$5,000) <strong>and</strong>dissemination (US$5,000).
