Th<strong>is</strong> year-longfellowship was generously funded by a Science & Technology Working Group member <strong>to</strong> support research activitiesfor <strong>the</strong> Blasker program, and <strong>the</strong> Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education initiatives.The Blasker-Rose-Miah Fund was establ<strong>is</strong>hed <strong>to</strong> nurture and develop unique and innovative d<strong>is</strong>coveries andexperiences which may be of benefit <strong>to</strong> all mankind, and <strong>to</strong> support and encourage individuals with high potential in<strong>the</strong> scientific, engineering and medical fields <strong>to</strong> reach <strong>the</strong>ir full potential. Th<strong>is</strong> year, more than $500,000 was granted<strong>to</strong> support nine projects from five research institutions through <strong>the</strong> Blasker Science & Technology grants program.The program also seeks <strong>to</strong> improve Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education in <strong>the</strong> greater<strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> area for grades K-12. Th<strong>is</strong> year, we continued an innovative three-stage capacity building process <strong>to</strong>solicit proposals for <strong>the</strong> evaluation and assessment of <strong>the</strong> effectiveness of ongoing or new STEM initiatives. Th<strong>is</strong> led<strong>to</strong> nonprofits entering <strong>the</strong> grant application process well-informed and equipped for success.
