Roger C. Educated asa research physic<strong>is</strong>t, in 1968, Robert joined AT&TBell Labora<strong>to</strong>ries, where h<strong>is</strong> research earned himinternational prizes and election in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> NationalAcademy of Sciences. After 22 years at Bell Labs, Robert moved on <strong>to</strong> UCSD as aprofessor of physics, and within six years became chancellor. In 2003, Robert wasappointed as president of <strong>the</strong> ten campus University of California (UC) system. H<strong>is</strong> experience in public affairs andcommunications spans three decades, including <strong>to</strong>urswith SAIC, <strong>the</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> Regional Chamber of Commerce,Governor Pete Wilson, Mayor Susan Golding, andCongressman Bill Lowery. During her 32-yearcorporate career, she held various general managementpositions at Biogen Idec, IDEC Pharmaceuticals and WellsFargo Bank. She has also been an active volunteer andboard member for a number of nonprofit organizations,including Girl Scouts of <strong>the</strong> USA (GSUSA).
