More than 180 individualsat <strong>the</strong> Starlight Center will integratehealthy behaviors in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir dailylives, which should result in th<strong>is</strong>group being less vulnerable <strong>to</strong> heartd<strong>is</strong>ease, diabetes, obesity, ando<strong>the</strong>r life-threatening conditionsand illnesses, increasing fitness andstamina over a period of 12 months.The South Bay YMCA YouthFitness program aids in <strong>the</strong>prevention of childhood obesityby increasing awareness of <strong>the</strong>importance of a healthy lifestylethrough exerc<strong>is</strong>e and nutritionaleducation in a fun environment.With $10,000 granted from CVCF,<strong>the</strong> program will engage children invarious forms of excerc<strong>is</strong>e activity,and teach basic nutritional guidelinesand healthy eating habits. TheYMCA’s program will involve <strong>the</strong>entire family <strong>to</strong> increase <strong>the</strong> successof healthy living in <strong>the</strong> home throughnewsletters and take-home activities,and perform exerc<strong>is</strong>es that are aimedat improving school d<strong>is</strong>trict fitnesstesting scores.Ramona Community FoundationThe <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> Foundation’s most recent affiliate <strong>is</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ramona Community Foundation. A strong group ofleaders in <strong>the</strong> community of Ramona are working <strong>to</strong> increase <strong>the</strong> membership of <strong>the</strong> foundation <strong>to</strong> enhancean endowment for Ramona which will help provide annual funding <strong>to</strong> local organizations.
