SUPER 8SECONDARY SCHOOLS COMPETITIONPALMERSTON NORTHGUN CLUB21 MAY 2010Listening to the rain pounding the roofon Thursday night gave me visions of atempest of biblical proportions – nothingparticularly unusual for the Manawatu!Luckily Friday morning dawned almostclear and, unbelievably, still. Maybe Scottyhad beamed me somewhere else?Unfortunately, New Plymouth,Gisborne and Rotorua were unable tofield teams. Luckily the remaining teams,Napier, Hastings, Tauranga, Hamilton andPalmerston North Boys High Schools areall extremely competitive providing for astrong competition.Nine possible 20/20 scores were postedin the single rise, 5 of them by PalmerstonNorth Boys High School getting themoff to a flying start. Unfortunately thebrilliance apparent in the single rise wasdevastatingly absent in the single barrelevent allowing Tauranga and Hamiltontogether to take the lead by 1 point goinginto the points score event.A well contested points score eventresulted in Tauranga and Hamilton tied on458/500 followed closely by PalmerstonNorth on 455/500. Napier and Hastingswere not far behind. Shoot offs consistedof 5 single rise, 5 single barrel and 5 pointsscore. In keeping with the spirited natureof the event Tauranga managed to headHamilton off by just 1 point. There were 3 shooters tied for HighGun – Levi Bent (Tauranga), CameronMuggeridge (Hamilton) and CallumBeattie (Palmerston North). Cameron tooka second shot in the points score leavingLevi and Callum to shoot the first 15 SR/SB/PS clean. Levi needed a second shoton his 28th target leaving Callum to shootthe last 2 targets clean. It is a credit to theshooters to see a shoot off end without atarget being missed!Congratulations to Team winnersTauranga 458/500. Scott Verran, LeviBent, Brody Clark, Jacob Samuel & AaronBaxendine. Congratulations also to CallumBeattie High Gun, Levi Bent 2nd place andCameron Muggeridge 3rd place.Callum Beattie (Palmerston North BoysHigh School) – High Gun.The Tauranga Team Aaron Baxendine,Levi Bent, Scott Verran, Jacob Samuel,Brodie Clark, Coach Ben Tuck.
