HOA Single Barrel Lockie Elliot High Gun Cameron Meikle HOA Ladies Points Score Alysha BellInter-collegiateShootSouthland 9 MayOur expectations of what to expect atthe inter-collegiate shoot were pleasurablyreinforced with an excellent turnout ofeleven schools from throughout Otagoand Southland region. Seventy-fiveshooters contested the event.We welcomed teams from Gore HighSchool, Southland Boys High School,Otago Boys High School, NorthernSouthland College, Central SouthlandCollege, John McGlashan College, MenziesCollege, Dunstan High School, VerdonCollege, Craighead Diocesan School andnew comers Mount Aspiring College.Historically Central Otago has a longassociation with <strong>Clay</strong> <strong>Target</strong> shooting andthe attendance of the team from MountAspiring College continues this trend.Vanessa Mulvihill and the girls fromCraighead were early birds to the groundsand the competition got underway withthe skeet event. Hamish Bell (CentralSouthland) shot the only possible of theday to take out the HOA Gutsell Trophy.Hamish partnered with Elliot Wilson alsowon the two-person team contest. TomWillocks (John McGlashan) and CameronMeikle (Mount Aspiring) won medals inthe senior and junior respectively.Single Rise was next on the programme.Bradley Rodgers (Menzies College) wonthe HOA Fish and Game Trophy afterbattling a 40 target shoot-off against TomWillocks from McGlashan. A popular winamong the Southland Club members andwe look forward to Bradley continuingon in this manner. Blair Butler (NorthernSouthland) also had a good run in thisdiscipline to win the junior medal.Points Score is the premier event forthis occasion and the team contest isincorporated in it, as is the girls’ individualcompetition. A junior and senior shooter,having both shot possibles, battled it outfor the Outdoor World Trophy for the topindividual spot with Matt Paterson (GoreHigh School) pipping Cameron Meikle ina shoot off. The girls’ winner was clear-cutwith Alysha Bell (Craighead) the HOA lady.The team event provided some excitementwith a shoot-off needed to establish thewinners. Gore High School and JohnMcGlashan were equal with 279 pointsand after the adding was done, Gore Highproved their prowess over McGlashan andwon the Jenkinson Cup. The CraigheadNo.1 team won the ladies event.Seven possibles contested the shootofffor the HOA placing in the Single Barrelevent. Lockie Elliot (John McGlashan)proved he was the best on the day andtook home the winners medal and HOAShooters World Trophy.Cameron Meikle had an outstandingday and for his efforts took home theWaghorn Wetlands Trophy High Gun. Ihave no doubt that we will see Cameronfeaturing in many more presentations,a shooter with a great deal of promise.Senior High Gun was won by Lockie Elliotwith Grant Ramsey winning the JuniorHigh Gun, a very good result for theMcGlashan shooters. Samantha Gray fromCraighead proved her consistency andwas successful in claiming the ladies title,the Carters Building Supplies Trophy.We would like to acknowledge thesupport of Fish and Game SouthlandRegion, for their sponsorship. This shoothas a myriad of trophies and medals, 46medals in all and the help from Fish andGame is very much appreciated. AllanWhite Sports sponsor the top scoringSouthland Team award, and we appreciatetheir continuing involvement.As is usual with any shoot, there are anumber of people to thank. Thank you toall at the Southland Club for your inputto help the day go so smoothly. To theSouthland Boys High mums who managedthe kitchen, well done. To the many parents,coaches and supporters who add so muchto the atmosphere of the day, thank you.Stu Cunningham for his expertise withthe camera and lastly to the competitors.Your enthusiasm and involvement are tobe admired.
