Over the years, the Council has played a significant role in the promotion ofa better sustainable built environment through professional involvement.The Council provides an effective platform for professionals and stakeholders in theindustry to share their experiences and best practices in green building and advocate fortheir implementation. Through forging strategic alliances with both local and overseasresearch organizations and conducting a variety of researches seminars and trainingcourses in green building design and technology, the Council has contributed greatly tofulfill Hong Kong’s commitment to building a sustainable environment, not only for us butalso our future generations.In the years ahead, green building will continue to serve as the impetus for the growth ofHong Kong’s economy. I am sure that the Council will keep on enhancing its professionalexcellence and strive ahead to strengthen the competitive edge of Hong Kong.I wish the Council every success in the years to come.I am pleased to congratulate the Professional Green Building Council (PGBC) on its10th Anniversary.Over the past decade, the PGBC has been playing an active role in promoting a sustainablebuilt environment in Hong Kong. Through professional involvement, the PGBC hasconducted collaborative researches on local and global developments of green buildings;organized researches, seminars and training courses in green building design andtechnology and advised the government on the formulation, setting up and monitoring ofa local green building labeling scheme.It is the mission of the Buildings Department (BD) to make the built environment safe,healthy and sustainable for our community. On this front, the BD promotes and facilitatesthe construction and maintenance of quality and sustainable private buildings byintroducing the Sustainable Building Design Guidelines to the building industry in early2011, covering building separation, building set back and site coverage of greenery. Throughconducting collaborative researches on worldwide development of green buildings,arranging seminars and training courses in green building design and technology, andorganizing awards schemes for green buildings and landscape works, the Council hasmade remarkable achievements in promoting sustainable planning, design, construction,management and maintenance of the built environment of Hong Kong. The Council hasalso provided valuable advice on the development of green buildings and the formulation,setting up and monitoring of a local green building labeling scheme.I thank the Council for its continuous dedication and effort in creating a green andsustainable built environment in Hong Kong.
