On behalfof the Faculty of Construction and Environment of The Hong KongPolytechnic University, I wish you continued success in all yourendeavors as well as a lasting impact on both local and overseasconstruction industries. Here’s to many more years of growth andprosperity.Once upon a time people lived in very sustainable housing. Thecaves, in which temperature was almost constant and pleasant, offered good shelter. From places deep into Africa to arcticenvironments, people managed to develop living spaces that werecomfortable and sustainable. Now after many decades of intensive use of energy and materialsin developed countries for food production, for the manufacturingof goods, for transportation and for housing, we arrived at asituation that we have to reflect on our progress. We have to rethinkour needs, behaviors and policies and implement moresustainable alternatives.Green building is a serious topic nowadays. It is generally knownthat buildings consume a lot of energy. It is also known thatthrough smart technologies combined with behavioral adaptationsof those who live in the buildings, major improvements can beachieved. In many developed countries, including Hong Kong, experimentsare being conducted to learn more about alternative approachesto sustainable living. It is of the utmost importance that suchlearnings are well captured and shared with professionals, suchthat insights lead to better building practices. It is for that reason that I want to congratulate the ProfessionalGreen Building Council (PGBC) on their 10th anniversary. Keep upthe good work and we will all benefit.環 保 建 築 專 業 議 會 十 周 年香 港 生 產 力 促 進 局 主 席陳 鎮 仁 賀 辭邁 向 綠 色 里 程共 創 優 質 生 活
