In the beginning, the four institutionsHKIA, HKIE, HKIS &HKILA agreed to take two year terms to serveour Council as secretariats with the chairmanship rotating andmeetings of activities to take place in the institute’s premisesof the elected chairman. HKIP joined the Council in 2005 andbecame an active participant.PLATFORMWe have then worked towards an organizational structure withvarious Boards and Committees to take on the various tasksto establish the PLATFORM aiming to assist our professionalmembers to accomplish our goal. Areas of success such asconferences and awards programmes owe a lot to their boardchairpersons and members who have created self fundingactivities for all members of the founding institutes.PERFORMANCEPrior to our establishment, the BEAM Society has been active insetting up standards for the PERFORMANCE in green buildings, wehave worked together and in our first PGBC conference we haveinvited people responsible around the world to come to HongKong to share their experiences. This important conference notonly assists us to set benchmark standards but also allow us tohave a good foundation in our relationship with others in differentcountries.secretaries of our founding institutes, without them we wouldnot have been able to function. Needless to say, the involvementof government’s support has been also a key factor. Right fromthe start, our advisors are important government officials. Theyhave all participated without reservation. Last but not least, ourprofessional members, sponsors and the public, it is them that weare here to serve and without their participation we will not exist.PHILOSOPHYBesides responsible for giving birth to PGBC, I have the honourand privilege to design our logo. I wish to take this opportunityto record something about this green equilateral triangle whichsymbolizes a trademark of excellence in the performance of greenbuildings. The logo has been designed as an approval stamp tobuildings that contributed to environmental friendly architecture.Notice that the letters PGBC are in the form of tall buildingsthat we have in Hong Kong and the Chinese name is at the baseserving as our foundation. During our inauguration in June 2003,the logos of the founding institutes were in the form of smallertriangles united to create PGBC.1PATRONAGEMuch of our success in the last decade is in the dedication ofchair & vice chairpersons, board & committee members as wellas people behind the scene.
