In thiscapacity, and as member of the Department of Commerceand Industry’s specialist advice group, hedelivered papers and presentations on CompanyLaw reformation at a series of workshops andconferences, which were especially aimed at theretention of Closed Corporations as a form ofenterprise, the abolition of common law doctrinesdispensed from the English Law, types of companies,as well as the lifting of statutory limitations onpartnerships and the import of a new form ofpartnership, the Limited Liability Partnership.Prof Rita-Marie Jansen, Department of PrivateLaw, is involved with research in three of the University’sStrategic Academic Clusters, namely Transformationin Highly Diverse Societies (Focus Area onIndigenous Knowledge Systems for People’s Transformationand Development); Technologies forSustainable Crop Industries in Semi-arid Regions(Focus Area on Technologies for Adding Value toand Improving Crop Product Quality); and AdvancedBimolecular Research (Focus Area on Novel DrugsDiscovery).The Faculty of Law commits itself formally andofficially to deliver a number of qualifying researchoutputs per year, at least equal to the number of fulltimeacademic staff members. Over the past threeyears, the Faculty produced more than 74 researchoutput units in accredited publication outputs.An important breakthrough for the Faculty wasan agreement reached with the Institute of AdvancedLegal Studies at the University of London and theFaculty of Law at Leicester University (both in the UK)to jointly accept the editorial responsibility to proceedwith the International and Comparative CorporateLaw Journal, an international authoritive journalon Mercantile Law. Prof Henning is one of the chiefeditors, and a number of contributions were submittedby Faculty staff members after approval fromexternal international subject referents.Besides the accredited subject journal, theTydskrif vir Regswetenskap, the series Medede lingsvan die Sentrum vir Ondernemingsreg also plays animportant and unique role in the research setup ofthe Faculty. The mono graphies make provision forthe publication of dissertations, papers and researchoutputs which are too long for publication injournals. The high status enjoyed by the monographies– quoted in court cases – stimulate research.The 40th edition in the series Mededelings vandie Sentrum vir Ondernemingsreg was handed toProf Frederick Fourie, Rector and Vice-Chancellor ofthe University, by Prof Henning, editor of the series.This edition, Perspectives on and a Selection fromFelicius-Boxelius, A Treatise on the Law of Part nership,is a unique contribution to the Mededelingsseries. It is the translation of the 1666 work ofFelicius-Boxelius Tractatus desideratissimus decommunione seu societate deque lucro item acquaestu, damno itidem ac expensis.
