He wasalso promoted to Outstanding Professor in 2007.Prof Leon van Rensburg.Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs (2006); Vice-Chairperson of the Matjhabeng Municipality’sMarketing and Investment Company (2006); ActingChairperson of the Land Bank Board of Directors,appointed by the Minister of Agriculture and LandAffairs (2007); and a member of the Natio nalAgricultural Marketing Council, also appointed by theMinister of Agri culture and Land Affairs (2007).Prof Gert van Zyl, Head at the School ofMedicine, received a bronze award from the Premierof the Free State in 2006, honouring his research anddevelopment contributions towards promoting thepublic health management system in the Province.Prof Hermie van Zyl of the Faculty of Theologyis the Chairperson of the Regional Council of theBible Association (2006).Prof Leon van Rensburg from the Departmentof Soil, Crop and Climate Sciences and his team(AW Frezghi and I van der Stoep) received a medalfrom the Soil Science Society of South Africa forapplied (implementable) technology in 2005.Prof Herman van Schalkwyk.Prof Herman van Schalkwyk, Dean of the Facultyof Nat ural and Agricultural Sciences, is a member ofthe Ministerial Committee to review the South Africanagricultural marketing environment, appointed by theMs Anita Venter, Assistant Researcher at theCentre for Development Support, received the 2007junior top achiever award in the Faculty of Economicand Management Sciences.Prof Basie Verster of the Department ofQuantity Surveying and Construction Managementreceived a medal of honour from the South AfricanAcademy of Science and Art in 2006 for hiscontributions in the field of quantity surveying andconstruction management. He was a Fellow of theChartered Institute of Buildings in the UnitedKingdom (UK) in 2005 and received the DistinguishedInternational Fellow award from the InternationalCost Engineering Council. Prof Verster is alsonational president of the Association of SouthAfrican Quantity Surveyors and director of the RoyalInstitution of Chartered Surveyors in the UK.Ms Sheila Vrahimis, Department of Geography,is a member of the Geographical Naming Committee74
