Mounting3.1.3 Applications with hazardous areasTo meet the requirements of installations in hazardous areas an intrinsically safe fieldbus has to be installed. Ahost normally does not provide an Ex-i fieldbus port, so a special barrier is required to isolate the segments.ABB's MB204-Ex provides this isolation. See instruction manual for MB204 for further details. The fieldbus powercan be supplied by the host or by a separate power conditioner as ABB's HPC-100. See instruction manual forHPC-100 for further details. But this power islimited and allows only a connection of few field devices. This can be avoided by using the MB204 (non Ex version) as segment coupler. The buspower is provided by the HPC-100, the MB204 is used to decouple the field devices from the "main" bus.
