Cultural Surveys Hawai‘i Job Code: KALIHI 23Kewalo Geographic ZoneGPR Discussion: A review of amplitude slice maps indicated no linear features although twoutilities were encountered during excavation. Reflectivity was relatively uniform throughout thegrid and decreases with depth. A transition from higher reflectivity to lower reflectivity wasobserved at approximately 0.75 mbs.GPR depth profiles for T-169 identified horizontal banding, commonly associated withstratigraphic layering, throughout the survey area. This banding corresponded to variations ofdensity and chemical composition within fill deposits. The profile also indicated a change inreflectivity occurring around 0.4 mbs. No utilities were observed in the profile although twometal utility pipes were encountered during excavation. The maximum depth of clean signalreturn was approximately 1.0 mbs.Summary: T-169 was excavated to a depth of 1.89 mbs. The stratigraphy of T-169 consisted offill strata (Ia-Ig) overlying a buried cultural A-horizon (II/SIHP# 50-80-14-7429) and naturalsediment (III) to the base of excavation. The stratigraphy generally conformed to the USDA soilsurvey designation of Fill land (FL). The faunal remains collected from Stratum II areconsidered to be associated with components of a culturally enriched buried A-horizon (SIHP#50-80-14-7429).
