So Lambda Alpha had only beenaround a few years or so. We were getting ready to welcome in our DeltaClass. (Go Delta Class!). It was decided that our chapter was in need ofa mascot. A few ideas were thrown out but none seemed to fit. Someonesuggested the idea of a crab named Crabs. This way whenever anotherchapter decided to steal our mascot Lambda Alpha would be able to say,“(Insert chapter name here) got Crabs from us.”I always like to say that we have Crabs (or Sebastian if you lookclosely) because our Big Brother Chapter Psi has Jeffery, from the Disneyfilm The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and therefore our chapter shouldhave a Disney mascot too. But that’s just me So be one the look out your chapter may be next to get Crabs!Ali “Z.O.T.” PealeLambda Alpha KKPsiTBS Omega’s Mascot: Horton!Name: HortonDescription: Blue ElephantBirthday: February 25, 2008Number of times stolen at convention: 0Lambda Alpha’s Mascot: Crabs!After the tragic loss of Flash the Pterodactyl, TBS omega decided to adopt anew mascot. After lots of screaming and intense labor lasting three weeks, Hortonwas born. As our mascot, Horton represents the ideal that “a person’s a personno matter how small.” In preparation for his first Convention, Horton had a goldtreble clef embroidered on his ear. Horton also received some pretty awesomebling while at WD convention.Page 13

In the care packageswere essential feminine products such as: deodorant,toothpaste, toothbrushes, tampons, soap, washcloths,and face wash.Omega (TBS)For Music’s SakeHigh School Pep BandThe brothers of the Iota Kappa chapter took a pep bandout to Marsing High School to play for their final homefootball game, because their band program had beencut completely.Iota KappaFor Service’s SakePsi and EKA Band Member’s Survival GuideIn hopes of helping new members of the Bruin MarchingBand feel more welcome and prepared for band camp andthe marching season, the brothers of the Psi Chapter andthe sisters of Epsilon Kappa Chapter created a “SurvivalGuide.” This guide contained tips, anecdotes, and usefulinformation about the band, its traditions, its marchingstyle, and the UCLA community as a whole. We foundthat this project was useful to the marching band andits staff, because every member came in prepared andaware of the expectations surrounding the tradition ofthe Solid Gold Sound.Sharing is Productive!Ask a member of your chapter who went to convention what projects they heard about from others!There are some incredible chapters in the Western District, let’s all learn from eachother!Page 14
