The AccentIota Gamma and Theta Delta’s Fateful Trip to WDC[by Leanne Burns-Iota Gamma and Alex McElroy- Theta Delta]It was a dark and stormy afternoon as 4 cars setout from Pullman, WA to make the 6 hour trek to Boise. In mostly unknown territory the weather became moreand more forbidding. The leading car accidentallyfound its way off the road into a nice pile of snow;after some wait a tow truck picked up the strandedtravelers and delivered them to a hotel where theyelected to spend the night.Later on the second and third car wheretraveling down a straight and narrow road, thatunbeknownst to them, was a solid sheet of ice. Thethird car lost its footing and found the snowy ditchto the side of the road. Once the car was backon the road, and everyone was found to be ok,it was discovered that a front tire was no longerSpring 2008 Editionattached to the wheel. This wouldn’t have been a major problem if the wheel had not been frozenand rusted on. After six different people tried to remove the stubborn wheel, it was eventuallyremoved and the car was driven to the nearest town. The stranded passengers were impressed at theamount of motorists who stopped to help; one evendonated a really nifty flashlight. The two cars thenwaited for quite some time for the tow truck andwere very grateful for the help from Gamma as twoof their members drove from Boise to pick up thewrecked car’s passengers. As it turns out, the last carto leave Pullman was the first one to arrive in Boise. All told everyone arrived in one piece, sooner or later, and managed to have an awesome experience atconvention. And then there was the trip back…Lani making a snow angel next to our stranded carRay and an off duty policeman putting onthe spare tireIota Pi’s Mascot: EduardoEduardo is a relatively new member of the Iota Pi Chapter. Throughout the years we have had a numerousamount of mascots but none of them ever really stuck until Eduardo came around. Eduardo is an inflatablePurple-Striped Zebra pool toy who made her (that’s right Eduardo is a girl) first appearance at the 2007 NationalConvention in Orlando, Flordia. We figured we would always want to keep Eduardo with us even if we wereswimming the night away. Eduardo even got her own National Convention name tag that she wears on her earat all times. However, the name tag was stolen at this year’s DLC, but it was safely returned. Eduardo feelsa great sense of security being with her chapter brothers because she can wrap herself around them. Therehave been many kidnapping attempts towards her as well as a slightly tragic attempted assassination. Shewas attacked by a coat hanger at DLC but survived with a minor scar that she keeps covered with a band aid.Eduardo has a companion named Horace however, Horace is not always seen at every event. Horace is a Maletoucan. He attends every district event but only comes out if Eduardo needs a rest or if she is in trouble. Weunderstand that Eduardo looks like a fun toy but we do want to keep her protected so please be nice to her. It isoften heard that she also may have a crush on a certain mascot named Jeffrey from the Psi chapter but they donot get to spend much time together.Page 13 36
