I am writing you from April of the year2008. Guess what… you’re going to graduate in four years! I know you don’t have a major yet (spoiler alert,it’s Psychology and Social Behavior), but don’t worry, it’s all going to work out. Although… if you could paya little more attention during your Environmental Analysis and Design Class next spring, your graduate schoolapplication would really appreciate it.Right about now you should be around halfway through your prospective membership at the LambdaAlpha chapter. If it’s not already, it’s going to get pretty dramatic. You might seem a little overwhelmed, andyou might be thinking to yourself, “is it worth it?” You’re going to back up your argument with ideas such as,“Well… they’ll still be my friends even if I’m not a brother,” or, “I’ll still be a really awesome active member ofthe band even if I don’t join the fraternity… and besides, this is going to take way too much time and be far toodramatic for my liking. Also, I kind of enjoy going to bed early on Sunday nights.”This is where I want you to pay attention - do not be deceived! Banish those thoughts from your mind.Sure, things seem a little intense and out-of-proportion. And sure, it’s going to get worse. You’re going tobecome active and sit through minimum four hour meetings and chapter wide squabbles that turn in to all outwars… but you’re going to love it. Your brothers are going to become your family, and these will be the besttimes you’ve ever had.Just a heads up, the next two years are going to be absolutely terrible for your personal life. You’regoing to hit rock bottom… and your brothers are going to bring you back up. They’re going to be there for youwhen you need them, and you’re going to be just fine.The meetings are going to get shorter. The drama will drift away. You will hold the offices of both VicePresident and President, and you will learn a lot about yourself in the process. You will end up doing a lot ofwork, and spending a lot of time dealing with fraternity issues… but just to let you know, it will absolutely beworth it.Hang in there,Future JamieP.S. Don’t root for the Patriot’s during the 2008 Superbowl… you will just end up being sorely disappointed.Also, buy an external hard drive before the end of Fall Quarter 2008… your savings account will thank you.Gamma Kappa’s Mascot: The Steller’s JayThe Steller's Jay, beautiful in it's rich blue and black feathers, is a birdnative to Flagstaff. Hitting close to home, Gamma Kappa has collectivelydecided that this bird fits extremely well as our mascot. He arrived in themail mid–semester and we've proudly named him "AH!" His name originatesfrom the "For Music Sake" Western District Convention" in 2007 when allof Gamma Kappa annoyed their brother chapters around them be replying"AH!" after almost every motion passed, and pretty much whenever we feltit was appropriate…so...all the time. He is new to our chapter last semester(Fall 2007) and we've grown quite fond of him. AH! also has a facebookprofile under GK AH. Please go friend him! He loves meeting new brothersand sisters!Page 34
