REP 12/NFSDU Appendix IV 53(a) energy value, expressed in kilocalories <strong>and</strong> kilojoules;(b) <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> amounts <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> protein, carbohydrates <strong>and</strong> fat, expressed in grammes;(c) in additi<strong>on</strong> to any o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r nutriti<strong>on</strong>al informati<strong>on</strong> required by nati<strong>on</strong>al legislati<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> totalquantity per feeding <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Formulated Complementary Food ready for c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> each vitamin<strong>and</strong> mineral added in accordance with Secti<strong>on</strong> 6.6, expressed in metric units.10.2.4 Instructi<strong>on</strong> for use10.2.4.1 The label should indicate clearly from which age <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> product is recommended for use. Thisage shall not be less than six m<strong>on</strong>ths for any product. In additi<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> label shall include a statementindicating that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> decisi<strong>on</strong> when precisely to introduce formulated complementary feeding, includingany excepti<strong>on</strong> to six m<strong>on</strong>ths <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> age, should be made in c<strong>on</strong>sultati<strong>on</strong> with a health worker, based <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>individual infant's specific growth <strong>and</strong> development needs. Additi<strong>on</strong>al requirements in this respectmay be made in accordance with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> legislati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> country in which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> product is sold.10.2.4.2 Directi<strong>on</strong>s as to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> preparati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> use <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> food shall be given; preferably accompanied bygraphical presentati<strong>on</strong>s.10.2.4.3 The suggested number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> feedings per day should be indicated.10.2.4.4 In <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> case that additi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> water is needed, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> directi<strong>on</strong>s for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> preparati<strong>on</strong> shall include aprecise statement that:(a) where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> food c<strong>on</strong>tains n<strong>on</strong>-heat-processed basic ingredients, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> food must be adequatelyboiled in a prescribed amount <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> water;(b) where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> food c<strong>on</strong>tains heat-processed basic ingredients:(i) <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> food requires boiling, or (ii) can be mixed with boiled water that has been cooled.10.2.4.5 For Formulated Complementary Foods to which fats, sugars or o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r digestible carbohydratesshould be added during preparati<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> instructi<strong>on</strong>s for use shall identify appropriate sources <strong>and</strong>indicate <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> amounts <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ingredients to be added. In such situati<strong>on</strong>s, fats <strong>and</strong> oils with anappropriate essential fatty acid ratio should be recommended.10.2.4.6 Directi<strong>on</strong>s for use shall include a statement that <strong>on</strong>ly an amount <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> food sufficient for <strong>on</strong>efeeding occasi<strong>on</strong> should be prepared at <strong>on</strong>e time. Foods not c<strong>on</strong>sumed during <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> feeding occasi<strong>on</strong>should be discarded, unless c<strong>on</strong>sumed within a period as recommended by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> manufacturer under <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>instructi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> use.10.2.4.7 The label should also include a statement that Formulated Complementary Foods are to bec<strong>on</strong>sumed in additi<strong>on</strong> to family foods <strong>and</strong> breast milk/breast milk substitutes.
