The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g> noted that this was a new issue <strong>and</strong> invited Australia to prepare a proposal forc<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> new work at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> next sessi<strong>on</strong>.Food Hygiene Provisi<strong>on</strong>s15. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g> recalled that in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> St<strong>and</strong>ard for Infant Formula <strong>and</strong> Formulas for Special MedicalPurposes Intended for Infants <strong>and</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> St<strong>and</strong>ard for Follow-up Formula (CODEX STAN 156-1987),reference was made to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Code <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hygienic Practice for Powdered Formulae for Infants <strong>and</strong> YoungChildren (CAC/RCP 66-2008), which superseded <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Code <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hygienic Practice for Foods for Infants <strong>and</strong>Children (CAC/RCP 21-1979) <strong>and</strong> c<strong>on</strong>sidered how to update <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> reference to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> superseded code in o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rtexts. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g> agreed to proceed as follows:St<strong>and</strong>ard for Cereal-Based Foods for Infants <strong>and</strong> Young Children (CODEX STAN 74-1981): delete <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>reference to CAC/RCP 21-1979 <strong>and</strong> refer to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> General Principles <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Food Hygiene, which adequatelycover <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> products c<strong>on</strong>cerned. St<strong>and</strong>ard for Canned Baby Foods (CODEX STAN 73-1981): delete <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> reference to CAC/RCP 21-1979<strong>and</strong> refer to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Code <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hygienic Practice for Low-Acid <strong>and</strong> Acidified Low-Acid Canned Foods(CAC/RCP 23-1979) <strong>and</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Code <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hygienic Practice for Aseptically Processed <strong>and</strong> Packaged Low-Acid Foods (CAC/RCP 40-1993) as well as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> General Principles <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Food Hygiene (CAC/RCP 1-1969). Guidelines for Formulated Supplementary Foods for Older Infants <strong>and</strong> Young Children (CAC/GL 8-1991): revise <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> hygiene secti<strong>on</strong> while revising <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Guidelines (see Agenda Item 6).16. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g> agreed to forward <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>se amendments to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Commissi<strong>on</strong> for adopti<strong>on</strong> as editorial <strong>and</strong>c<strong>on</strong>sequential amendments.<str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> Methods <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Analysis <strong>and</strong> SamplingEndorsement <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Methods <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Analysis Provisi<strong>on</strong>s in <str<strong>on</strong>g>Codex</str<strong>on</strong>g> St<strong>and</strong>ards17. It was noted that<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> CCNFSDU would be informed when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> work <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> selecti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> methods for dietary fibre wascompleted.MATTERS OF INTEREST ARISING FROM FAO AND WHO (Agenda Item 2b) 318. The Representative <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> FAO informed <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> committee about several current FAO activities such as ameeting <strong>on</strong> nutriti<strong>on</strong> informati<strong>on</strong>, educati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> communicati<strong>on</strong> for 19 Latin American <strong>and</strong> Caribbeancountries, to be held in El Salvador in December 2011<strong>and</strong> an internati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>ference <strong>on</strong> diet <strong>and</strong> activityassessment methods, to be held in Rome in May 2012. FAO is publishing a West African food compositi<strong>on</strong>table, a protein quality expert report, a book <strong>on</strong> milk <strong>and</strong> dairy products. With funds from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> GermanMinistry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Food, Agriculture <strong>and</strong> C<strong>on</strong>sumer Protecti<strong>on</strong>, FAO is developing a pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>essi<strong>on</strong>al trainingprogramme for nutriti<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> communicati<strong>on</strong>. A new strategy for all nutriti<strong>on</strong> work in FAO is beingdeveloped <strong>and</strong> should be finalized in 2012.19. In reply to a questi<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Representative indicated that updated data from countries <strong>on</strong> foodcompositi<strong>on</strong> could be provided to INFOODS or through FAO regi<strong>on</strong>al <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fices.20. The Representative <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> WHO highlighted some <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> activities which may be <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> relevance to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> work<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Committee</str<strong>on</strong>g>. WHO is currently developing a road map to implement <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Political Declarati<strong>on</strong> adoptedat <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> High-level meeting <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> UN General Assembly <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Preventi<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> C<strong>on</strong>trol <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> N<strong>on</strong>-communicableDiseases held in New York in September 2011<strong>and</strong> its Acti<strong>on</strong> Plan. WHO is also developing a comprehensiveimplementati<strong>on</strong> plan <strong>on</strong> maternal, infant <strong>and</strong> young child nutriti<strong>on</strong> as requested by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> World HealthAssembly in May 2010. During 2011, five regi<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>sultati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> Scaling-up Nutriti<strong>on</strong> were held to obtaininputs from Member States <strong>and</strong> o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r stakeholders for formulating a comprehensive implementati<strong>on</strong> plan. Adraft implementati<strong>on</strong> plan will be reviewed at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Executive Board meeting in January 2012.3CX/NFSDU 11/33/3
