CHAPTER 5The TechnicalAdvisory PanelThe Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) assists the Governing Board and Director in engineering, scientific andtechnological matters in particular, by providing comments and recommendations on the Project Plan andWork Programmes. The TAP is composed of 13 members appointed by the Governing Board (see Annex II).Chair and Vice ChairThe Governing Board re-elected Professor MinhQuang Tran and Dr Derek Stork as Chair and Vice-Chair of the TAP respectively for a second and lastterm of two years effective 22 October 2009.Summary of DiscussionsThe TAP met on three occasions during 2009 and themain activities included:··Monitoring the progress of the implementationof F4E technical activities and reporting to theGoverning Board;··Providing comments and recommendationsto the Governing Board on the 2009 and 2010Project Plan and Work Programmes as well assubsequent amendments thereto;··Participating in a Joint Working Group establishedby the CCE-FU and the F4E Governing Board toconduct an assessment on the urgent elementsof fusion energy research activities and facilitiesrequired during the timeframe of the ITERconstruction to acquire the knowledge necessaryto build the first demonstration fusion power plant(DEMO).The F4E Technical Advisory Panel70
