distorted but originally had a diameter of approximately 20mm in diameter. The ring hasassay marks on its interior face indicating it was made in Birmingham in 1863 byG.Loveridge & Co. Silver pieces dating between 1784-1890 should also have a sovereign’shead mark to show that duty has been paid on them but curiously this piece has no suchmark.3.5 GLASSJ.M. Bond & Z. OutramThree small fragments of glass were recovered from the <strong>2008</strong> excavation season,summarised in table 3.6, bringing the total assemblage of glass fragments recovered to 14sherds (11 sherds from Hamar, and 3 sherds from the Upper House, Underhoull). All threefragments were collected from relatively secure deposits and so they do not appear torepresent contamination. There were no distinguishing features visible on the fragments ofglass, but further analysis will provide more information, such as the chemical compositionof the glass. On the curved lowersurface the channel is V-shaped, 5.5mm deep and only runs from the narrow end to thecentral perforation. Onesurface has been deeply scored with a roughly chequer board pattern but is otherwiseunmarked. The remaining fragment tapers down its length with acentrally set slightly biconical perforation.
