In Transport May Also Include:— Driverless motor vehicle in motion— Motionless motor vehicle abandoned on a roadway— parked motor vehicle in transport during periods when parking is forbidden (Disabledmotor vehicle on a roadway)In roadway lanes used for travel during rush hours and parking during <strong>of</strong>f-peak periods,ISLAND, CHANNELIZING - A traffic island located in a roadway area to control and directspecific movements <strong>of</strong> traffic to definite channels.ISLAND [TRAFFIC ISLAND] - An area within a roadway from which vehicular traffic isintended to be excluded, together with any area at the approach thereto occupied by signs orwarning devices.JURIS<strong>DI</strong>CTION - The area or range <strong>of</strong> judicial or other authority.LANED ROADWAY - A roadway which is divided into two or more clearly marked lanes forvehicular traffic.LOCAL AUTHORITIES - Every county, municipal, and other local board or body havingauthority to enact laws relating to traffic under the constitution and laws <strong>of</strong> the state.MAKE [VEHICLE] - A distinctive name, applied to a group <strong>of</strong> vehicles from onemanufacturer, which may be further subdivided into car line or body type, such as: Chevrolet,Ford, Porsche, etc.ME<strong>DI</strong>AN - The portion <strong>of</strong> a divided highway separating the traveled ways for traffic in oppositedirection.MODEL [CAR LINE] - A name denoting a family <strong>of</strong> vehicles within a make which has adegree <strong>of</strong> commonality in construction, such as body, chassis, etc.MODEL YEAR - A year designation used by the vehicle manufacturer for marketing (notnecessarily the year <strong>of</strong> manufacture.)MOPED - A bicycle that is equipped with a motor that has a capacity <strong>of</strong> less than 50 cubiccentimeters piston displacement, or rated less than one brake horsepower. For the purpose <strong>of</strong>completing a motor vehicle crash report, a moped will be considered a motor vehicle.MOTORCYCLE - Every motor vehicle, other than a tractor, having a seat or saddle for the use<strong>of</strong> the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels.MOTOR-DRIVENCYCLE - Every motorcycle, including every motor scooter, with a motorwhich produces no more than five horsepower, and every bicycle with motor attached.MOTOR VEHICLE - Every vehicle which is self-propelled and every vehicle which ispropelled by electric power obtained from overhead trolley wires, but not operated upon rails.MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH - A crash involving a motor vehicle in transport, but notinvolving aircraft or watercraft.MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC CRASH - Any motor vehicle crash that occurs on a trafficway or that occurs after the motor vehicle runs <strong>of</strong>f a roadway but before events are stabilized. Fora crash to have occurred, either property damage (to a motor vehicle or other property) or injurymust have resulted.94
