d) Trucks :Large or bulk quantity of potatoes are carried by the trucks to the distant placesthrough out the country. It is convenient for:i) Easy availabilityii) Time savingiii) Quick movement of stocksiv) Door to door delivery.v) Lower transit losses due to least handing ofloading and unloading.e) Railway Transport :During harvesting season, considerable quantitiesof potato are transported by railway wagons. This isconvenient for :i) Suitable for carrying larger quantity of potatoesover long distances.ii) Comparatively cheaper and safer mode oftransport available through a wide network ofrailways.3.7. STORAGE :It has been noticed that over the years, production of potato has increasedmanifold which led to glut situation in the market. The practice of storage helps tostabilize the prices in the market. Storing potatoes for longer period in normaltemperature is not possible as it is a living material and through respiration, the changesoccurs due to heat, resulting in loss of dry matter and ultimate deterioration of quality oftubers. At optimum condition, the quality of potatoes remains good in storage for 3-5weeks.
