Chapter 4 HandlingCleaning the Thermal HeadEpson recommends cleaning the thermal head periodically (generally every 3 months) tomaintain receipt print quality.CAUTIONAfter printing, the thermal head can be very hot. Do not touch it and let it cool beforeyou clean it. Do not damage the thermal head by touching it with your fingers or anyhard object.Turn off the printer, open the roll paper cover, and clean the thermal elements of the thermalhead with a cotton swab moistened with an alcohol solvent (ethanol or IPA).Thermal headDepending on the roll paper used, paper dust may stick to the platen roller and roll paper endsensor. To remove the paper dust, clean the platen roller and roll paper end sensor with a cottonswab moistened with water. Turn on the printer power only after the water has completelydried.493
