46Mainfreight International – Jon GundyLooking back over the first five months of thecalendar year, we have seen plenty of excitingchange, challenges and opportunity. The needfor our business to be constantly moving andadapting is as evident as it ever has been.Our key achievements in the first half of this yearare:Mainfreight International has expanded to an11 branches in New Zealand inclusive of newbranches in Dunedin, Hamilton and a dedicatedAuckland Airfreight Branch. We see opportunitiesto further grow our regional network.With our combined Perishable airfreight and Dryairfreight tonnages we have retained our Airfreightnumber one IATA ranking from New Zealand.We achieved our National Profit target for the yearending 31 March 2008.The International Forwarding market hasdeveloped from a need to successfully movefreight through a strong worldwide network toalso include the system capability to manageinformation data between multiple parties basedhere and overseas. Mainfreight has developedsystems solutions that deliver strong datamanagement. The front end of this systemdevelopment is our Customer Services teams whoare better placed to provide import customersfull visibility on their shipments whether they beAir/Sea from USA,China, Australia orother origins. Thatsaid, our systemswill only deliver ifwe have a team thatremains committedto producingexcellent source datathrough attention todetail and the desireto offer excellentservice.New Zealand exports of manufactured goodshave continued to decline and we are focussedaggressively on the import retail sector for bothseafreight and airfreight for future revenue growth.We are working with Mainfreight International inAsia, USA and Australia to grow our import supplychain business.New Auckland AirfreightFacilityThe team at Westney Road experienced the firsttangible impact of the new airfreight facility onMonday 26 May, when the new car park opened.All team member and visitors car parks are nowat the northern end of the Mainfreight Logisticsbuilding.The change of car park allowed work tocommence on the new airfreight facility.We are excited about the new facility as it willbring the entire Mainfreight International Aucklandteam to one site for the first time. The new facilitywill have state of the art cargo handling andrefrigeration equipment, generating substantialefficiencies for our customers and for MainfreightInternational.We know the team at Ascot Road is lookingforward to their new home.This year we havesecured two wellknownretailerbrand’s importsupply chainbusiness.
