<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong> <strong>2010</strong>/<strong>11</strong>Part 2 – General <strong>Regulations</strong>2.54. QMUL will give a student formal, written notification of the intention to de-register <strong>and</strong>specific deadline by which he/she can pay the relevant fee or charge before deregistrationwill occur. If no payment has been received by this time <strong>and</strong> the studentis still in debt to QMUL, then the student’s registration <strong>and</strong> enrolment will beterminated <strong>and</strong> he/she will cease to be a student of QMUL.2.55. An individual whose registration as a student has been terminated may appealagainst the decision in accordance with the College Appeal <strong>Regulations</strong> (CAR).Attendance <strong>and</strong> participation2.56. Attendance refers to QMUL’s expectations with regard to the way in which studentsengage with the teaching, learning <strong>and</strong> assessment requirements for theirprogramme of study. Attendance may or may not require physical attendance:distance learning students attend their programme through participation in learning,teaching <strong>and</strong> assessment activities.2.57. QMUL specifies <strong>and</strong> publishes term, semester <strong>and</strong> examination dates as well as thehours of operation. QMUL delivers learning, teaching <strong>and</strong> assessment activitiesduring such dates <strong>and</strong> during the hours of operation. Students are expected to beavailable to participate in teaching, learning <strong>and</strong> assessment activities during term<strong>and</strong> semester dates <strong>and</strong> during hours of operation. Where assessment, learning orteaching activities take place during periods that are not specified as semester orterm dates e.g. field courses students are still expected to attend these.2.58. QMUL expects students to ensure that a particular programme or module isacceptable to him/her prior to registration <strong>and</strong> that he/she is able to meet theattendance, learning <strong>and</strong> assessment requirements for that programme <strong>and</strong>/ormodule. QMUL is not able to change the regulations <strong>and</strong> requirements or schedulingof programmes or modules to meet an individual student’s needs.2.59. Students are expected to attend regularly all forms of learning activities associatedwith their programme of study <strong>and</strong> participate in their programme as required byQMUL. Students are required to complete all assessment for the modules they areregistered for as prescribed by the relevant module regulations.2.60. Students may not be absent from QMUL during term-time without obtaining writtenagreement in advance of their Head of School/ Institute. Where the reason forabsence or failure to complete assessment is due to illness or other such causewhich is unplanned <strong>and</strong> outside of the student’s control, students are expected tosubmit a claim for extenuating circumstances <strong>and</strong> provide appropriate documentaryevidence.Taking a module2.61. A student who registers for a module is deemed to be taking that module or havetaken it whether or not deregistration/withdrawal follows.
