<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong> <strong>2010</strong>/<strong>11</strong>Part 3 – <strong>Regulations</strong> for the conduct of assessmentstudent’s responsibility to submit any extenuating circumstances claims at least 24hours before the meeting of the relevant Examination Board for the module(s).3.54. Where a student is taken ill during the course of an examination the senior invigilatorwill record this in the report. In such cases, a student must still submit an extenuatingcircumstances claim with supporting documentary evidence at least 24 hours beforethe meeting of the relevant Examination Board if they wish the circumstances to beconsidered.Invigilated examinations using a virtual learning environment (VLE)3.55. Any PC being used for the purpose of an invigilated examination must be in ‘kioskmode’ so a student cannot access the internet or any resources on the PC other thanthe examination itself, <strong>and</strong> any relevant permissible materials. Accessing or usingany prohibited sources of information is considered an assessment offence <strong>and</strong> willbe treated as such under the <strong>Regulations</strong> for Assessment Offences.3.56. Internal examiners are required to provide any necessary instructions for invigilatedexaminations using a VLE.3.57. Internal examiners are required to provide a paper copy of the question paper for anystudents who are unable to sit the exam at a PC <strong>and</strong> in the event of PC failure so thatthe examination can continue using paper.Coursework <strong>11</strong>3.58. The design <strong>and</strong> setting of coursework assessment is the responsibility of the relevantinternal examiner/module organiser in accordance with the approved modulespecification <strong>and</strong> regulations. Where required, coursework will also be subject toapproval of the relevant Subject Examination Board <strong>and</strong> External Examiner.3.59. Students are informed of the arrangements, dates <strong>and</strong> deadlines for courseworkassessment at the start of each semester.3.60. Students are required to adhere to any published dates <strong>and</strong> deadlines for courseworkassessment.3.61. The relevant School/Institute responsible for the module will inform students of anypenalties applied to the late submission of coursework.3.62. Any student who due to medical or other reason outside of their control, is unable tocomplete coursework by or on a set date should submit a claim for extenuatingcircumstances supported by relevant documentary evidence.<strong>11</strong> Coursework includes assessment that must be submitted by a set deadline (essays, reports etc), aswell as assessment that is taken on a specific date (e.g. tests, orals etc). Therefore, the term ‘noncompletion’is used to refer to both non-submission <strong>and</strong> non-attendance.Page 47 of <strong>11</strong>0
