<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong> <strong>2010</strong>/<strong>11</strong>Definitions<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong> <strong>2010</strong>/<strong>11</strong>Definitions<strong>Academic</strong> Credit refers to an indicator of the a mount <strong>and</strong> level of learning. <strong>Academic</strong> creditis awarded in multiples of 15.<strong>Academic</strong> Level refers to the relative complexity, depth of study <strong>and</strong> learner autonomyrequired in relation to a module in the context of its discipline: each module will be ascribed alevel on the following scale:3 Foundation - pre-degree level. (Previously referred to as level 0)4 Introductory (previously referred to as level 1)5 Intermediate (previously referred to as level 2)6 Final (previously referred to as level 3)7 Masters (previously referred to as level M)Advanced St<strong>and</strong>ing refers to prior certificated study, at another institution, that is deemed tobe equivalent to QMUL modules from which exemption is being sought.Assessed Coursework refers to coursework that a student is required to complete <strong>and</strong>submit, <strong>and</strong> which contributes (either in whole or in part) to the module mark <strong>and</strong> award.Award refers to undergraduate, graduate <strong>and</strong> postgraduate certificates, diplomas, bachelors(with <strong>and</strong> without honours) degrees, undergraduate masters <strong>and</strong> postgraduate mastersdegrees. The awards offered by the QMUL are detailed in its Ordinances <strong>and</strong> <strong>Regulations</strong>College refers to Queen Mary <strong>and</strong> Westfield College which operates under the name ofQueen Mary, University of London (QMUL).College Mark refers to the weighted average of a student’s performance calculated inaccordance with the regulations for the award, on which the classification of the award isbased.Component of assessment see Element of Assessment.Compulsory module refers to a module that must be taken in order to meet reqfor progression <strong>and</strong>/or award.uirementsCore Module refers to a module that must be passed in order to met award regulations.Co-requisite module refers to a specified module that must be takeanother specified module.n at the same time asCourse or Course Unit in these regulations is referred to as ‘module’.Delegated Authority refers to instances where the authority invested in an individual orbody is delegated to another individual or body for the purposes specified.Developmental Year refers to a year of a programme which is usually one academic year offull-time study, during which a student is normally required to be registered for modules tothe value of 120 credits.
