99MARSHALL ISLANDSIn 1944, the prevalence of LF on Majuro was found <strong>to</strong> be1% and in 1953 it was 3.6% on Namorik (Pipkin, 1953;quoted by Sasa, 1976). In 1999, Marshall Islands participatedin PacELF. In 2001, a countrywide antigen prevalencesurvey was carried out and two positive cases werefound out of 2004 people examined (0.1%). The two caseswere originally from Mejit Island. Marshall Islands wascategorized as partially endemic based on this survey.During 2002 and 2003, a sentinel survey was carried ou<strong>to</strong>n two islands: 294 people were examined with ICT inMejit and 130 positive cases were found (44.2%); 244 peoplewere examined in Ailuk and 71 positive cases werefound (29%). There were no positive cases on Wotje oron Ebon. The first round of MDA with DEC (6 mg/kg)plus albendazole (400 mg) was conducted on Mejit andAiluk in 2003.
